McKesson Corp., a health care services provider and drug
distributor, said Monday it acquired RelayHealth Corp., a provider of
services that allow doctors and patients to communicate online.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The transaction seeks to expand McKesson's presence into the personal health management market.
RelayHealth, founded in 1999, allows patients to maintain their own
personal health records at home, keep track of prescriptions, set
appointments, get test results and talk to their doctors over a secure
connection with its webVisit service. About 18,000 health care workers,
600,000 patients and more than a dozen health plans use the network.
McKesson also announced it formed a new Personal Health Solutions group
to provide interactive technologies, in order to allow patients to
better communicate with their health care providers.
In addition to RelayHealth, McKesson's personal health services will
include in-home patient monitoring, Web portal technology, triage
software and personal emergency response systems. The full product
suite will include services from recently acquired HealthCom Partners
LLC, which provides patient billing services designed to simplify and
enhance financial interactions between healthcare providers and their
patients.
