McKesson Buys Billing Portal Vendor

(May 25, 2006)

San Francisco-based McKesson Corp. has acquired HealthCom Partners LLC, which sells software enabling patients to access their billing information on a provider organization's Web site. Acquisition terms were not disclosed.

The PatientCompass software from Mount Prospect, Ill.-based HealthCom enables patients to access their billing accounts to check the status of claims, make a payment, receive e-mail notification when insurance payments are made, change insurance information and perform other tasks.

The software is designed to reduce telephone calls and other queries to provider billing offices while improving patient satisfaction and cutting accounts receivable days, according to HealthCom. The company has more than 200 customers.

The acquisition expands McKesson's portfolio of revenue cycle management applications. More information is available at healthcompartners.com and mckesson.com.
