GE Healthcare, Waukesha, Wis., will offer its revenue cycle management and electronic medical records software via the application service provider computing model. The company made the announcement at the Healthcare Financial Management Association's 2006 National Institute, June 18-22 in Orlando, Fla.
Episcopal Health Services, New York, was the first delivery system to go live with the ASP-based revenue cycle management system. Plano, Texas-based Heart Hospital Baylor, which opens in January, will have its EMR application remotely hosted by GE.
Offering these system via an ASP is a more cost effective way to deploy them, says Mary Gallicano, marketing manager for Centricity business at GE Healthcare. For example, it will cost around $100,000 a month to deploy EMRs for a 150-bed hospital using remote hosting, while deploying them as a standalone system would be a capital cost of millions.
Under the ASP arrangement, the applications will run on HP servers located at GE's hosting center in Chicago. GE will be responsible for all technical support for the software, including installation of upgrades.
